Did Jesus foretell the destruction of the Jewish Temple within the next generation?

A friend said that Jesus foretelling the destruction of the Temple is nothing special, because eventually it would be destroyed as nothing lasts forever. Elsewhere I read that Jesus foretold that the Temple would be destroyed within a certain timeframe. Is this true?
