Halo reach armor hit detection?

does the size of your armor make u a bigger target? for example say u had the commander shoulder piece on and u shot at the very edge of the shoulder piece would it register? and say u shot at the exact same place with no shoulders on would it still register even though it didn't hit anything. to sum it up if u make your spartan smaller would he be harder to hit?
